Expected to go on sale next year, the Fisker Ocean will enter the hotly contested all-electric SUV segment. With a federal tax credit taken into account, it will sell for around $30,000, which is significantly less than the base Tesla Model Y. But even before the Ocean arrives, CEO Henrik Fisker has already begun planning for another model. Fisker told Automotive News that this next vehicle will cost "much less" than the Ocean SUV and that its "unique proportions" won't fit into any typical segment. Could this be the mysterious vehicle that he teased just last month?

There's no way of knowing for sure, but the idea of a Fisker EV at a more affordable price point than the Ocean is certainly appealing. Currently, one of the cheapest EVs on the market is the Chevrolet Bolt which begins at $36,620. The CEO said that this new vehicle will specifically suit urban drivers and commuters, so it doesn't sound like it'd be especially large.

"It will be somewhat smaller than the Ocean," said Fisker. "When you see the vehicle, you will immediately realize there is nothing like it. And I think some people might find it a little too futuristic and a little too different in the beginning." He said it won't be a sedan nor a pickup.

This cheaper Fisker model will still be positioned as a premium vehicle despite the lower price and will be built by Foxconn, a company that builds the Apple iPhone but has never before dabbled in the construction of cars. However, Foxconn does already supply certain automotive parts like screens and wiring harnesses.

Towards the end of 2023, it's Fisker's hope that the company's numerous automotive plants will be building a minimum of 250,000 vehicles per year. A more affordable EV can help the company achieve this, but it'll have to tackle upcoming entry-level battery-electrics from the likes of Tesla and Volkswagen. That's a big ask, but we look forward to the reveal of Fisker's new contender.
