Now that's what we call a fast charge!
Henrik Fisker, automotive designer and CEO of Fisker Inc., recently revealed the name of his company's latest model. The Ocean will be a small SUV targeted directly at the upcoming Tesla Model Y and is set to make its full reveal next month at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). But Fisker has already announced many details about its upcoming SUV. For starters, the Ocean subscriptions will start at just $379 per month (plus a $2,999 down payment) and the electric powertrain is expected to deliver between 250 and 300 miles of range.
With such an impressive range, the Ocean is already stacking up as a potential Tesla competitor. But before the Ocean is fully revealed, Fisker has just announced a partnership with Electrify America, the largest, open DC Fast charging network for EVs in the United States, to provide excellent benefits for future Ocean owners.
Fisker says Ocean drivers will have access to a "frictionless charging experience" capable of adding 200 miles in just 30 minutes (15% capacity to 80% capacity). Charge times are often cited as the main concern for potential EV buyers, many of whom say they worry about having to stop to charge for long periods of time. But the Ocean's quick charge time should alleviate most of these concerns.
"I have been eagerly waiting to show our revolutionary Fisker Ocean luxury SUV to the public, so we decided to debut the full prototype - reflecting the actual production vehicle - at CES 2020," said Henrik Fisker, chairman and CEO of Fisker Inc. "The world will get to see the fully-engineered vehicle, which rides on a production-ready platform - signaling our intent to get it to market efficiently. I'm also very excited about our partnership with Electrify America, which enables Fisker drivers access to the largest open DC Fast charging network in the USA - with approximately 800 charging stations and about 3,500 chargers across 45 states by 2021."
"Fisker customers will enjoy automatic recognition of the vehicle at Electrify America charging stations, a free miles package from Fisker and the ability to find charging stations through the Fisker Flexee mobile app. Overall, Fisker Ocean will serve as a model for how desirable EVs can replace gasoline vehicles as practical daily drivers," Fisker added.
Fisker Ocean reservation holders who placed a $250 deposit will soon have access to an exclusive video showing a new feature called "California Mode." The feature will be standard on all except the base trim and will allow drivers to experience an open cabin without it being a convertible. Ocean production will begin at the end of 2021 with the first high-volume deliveries expected in 2022.
