Fisker has been teasing its upcoming, unnamed electric SUV for a while now, showing off features such as a large sunroof option called the California Package. The upcoming SUV will be released as a 2021 model, set to rival the Tesla Model Y. While we have seen small glimpses of what the SUV will look like along with a promise of a sub-$40,000 starting price, Fisker has been quiet on what the name will be... until now.
Fisker chairman and CEO, Henrik Fisker finally announced the name of his company's upcoming SUV, which will be called the Fisker Ocean. The name is a nod to sustainability because the Ocean will use recycled and vegan materials inside.
"For the past two years, we have been working quietly on an emotionally appealing and affordable luxury electric vehicle that will serve as a flagship for driving positive global change - from the most sustainable materials possible across the supply chain to practicality that will change the perception of what an EV can be," said Henrik Fisker.
"The Fisker Ocean features dramatic sculpture - with a wide stance and a luxurious SUV silhouette. I wanted to combine maximum usability with an unprecedented driving experience. The interior is spacious and extremely modern, bringing a luxury feel and timelessness that has never been seen in a vehicle before. The future of mobility is about enjoying an electric vehicle without hassle, long-term commitment, and the prohibitively high cost of ownership. Driving the Fisker Ocean will be easy: through a flexible lease via a mobile app. And we take care of all the service and maintenance. Simply put, we're introducing the future of hassle-free, fun and easy e-mobility," he added.
Instead of showing off a concept car, Fisker will reveal the full production Ocean on January 4, 2020. Early pre-orders open on November 27, 2019, along with more details on pricing and possibly range, which is expected to be around 250 to 300 miles. Production isn't set to begin until the end of 2021 with deliveries starting in 2022.
