Ford Bronco Creates More Jeep Owner Jealousy

Off-Road / Comments

A cool new feature is coming by year's end.

Jeep has owned the off-road SUV segment for years but things are about to change. The reborn Ford Bronco and first-ever Bronco Sport have arrived. Both are already smash-hits despite some quality issues with the former. Like with Jeep, owners have a huge and growing selection of accessories to select from in order to create their perfect vehicle. One of the many Bronco accessories owners have been clamoring for is tube doors because, well, just look at them.

They weren't available at launch time but now a release date has been set. Unnamed Ford Performance executives have said the tube doors will be at dealerships by the end of the year.

Pictured here on the Riptide concept, the doors should be very easy to install because they utilize the SUV's factory-spec door latch and hinge. Removing them for wintertime should also be a breeze. Presently, the tube doors are listed on Ford's website at $850 for two-door models. This increases to $1,360 for four-door examples. It's possible these prices will change between now and when they're available. Supplier issues could be the reason for a price change.

Another great thing about them is that they can be installed on every trim level. But to be clear, they're for the regular Bronco only, not the Bronco Sport. The latter was never designed to accommodate them and we highly doubt such a feature will ever become available.

Remember, the Bronco Sport rides on the same platform as the Escape crossover and new Maverick compact truck. The tube doors are part of several changes for the 2022 Bronco. The new model year not only brings the addition of new exterior color options like Eruption Green and Hot Pepper Red Metallic, but also at least three new variants: the Bronco Raptor, Everglades, and Heritage Edition. The Sasquatch Package, by popular demand, can soon be paired with the seven-speed manual instead of only the slushbox.

A complete list of updates is expected to be announced shortly along with an updated accessories catalog.
