For those looking to buy a Ford F-250 pickup truck, perhaps it's a good idea for you to be aware of this latest Ford news. According to the Highway Loss Data Institute's (HLDI) latest rankings survey, which accounts for claim dates from 2010-2012, the Ford F-250 is now the most stolen vehicle in the US, overtaking the Cadillac Escalade. On its scale, which shows the average is 1.2 claims per 1,000 insured vehicles, the F-250 4x4 crew cab has a claim frequency of 7.

Part of the reason why the F-250 has become such a target for thieves is the fact that big pickup trucks have increased in popularity over the past couple of years. As such, GM pickups such as the Chevy Silverado 1500 crew cab, Chevy Avalanche and GMC Sierra 1500 crew rounded the remaining top four slots. The Escalade, meanwhile, has fallen to number six. The HLDI states that the average insurance payout for an F-250 claim is $7,060. However, the HLDI's data doesn't distinguish between the theft of the entire vehicle and thefts from those vehicles, only the aforementioned average insurance payout. Sometimes the entire car itself is jacked while other times just a cell phone was taken.
