Presenting the newest hot hatch that likely won't come to American shores, the 2015 Ford Focus ST diesel. Having its official unveiling at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Focus ST Diesel (careful not to call it the Focus STD) will compete directly against the Volkswagen GTD, a turbo diesel-powered version of the GTI. The Ford is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo diesel four with 182 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. 0-62 mph happens in 8.1 seconds and top speed is capped off at 135 mph.

For a quick comparison, the gasoline-engined Focus ST packs 252 hp and 270 lb-ft, hits 62 in 6.5 seconds, and has a top speed of 152 mph. However, the diesel version is far more fuel efficient and is 23 percent more powerful than the regular Focus diesel offering. Like the Focus ST, the ST diesel comes with a short-throw six-speed manual gearbox and all other mechanical enhancements for top performance. Euro buyers will also have the option (for both versions) of either a five-door hatchback or a wagon. So will Ford bring the ST diesel stateside? Very unlikely simply because the regular ST already sells so well; why bother bringing internal competition? Tell us what you think in the comments and poll ahead.
