Future Fords Will Become Mobile Offices

The Ford And Webex collaboration makes remote work a lot easier.

The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the advantages and power of working remotely. Getting work done on the go is something that Ford has concentrated on with its new F-150 Lightning model. Using its massive battery pack, the brand claims that it can power a regular home for 10 days, meaning it should have more than enough energy to keep your business running on the road.

With the goal of expanding this niche portfolio, Ford will be collaborating with video conference calling experts Webex. This software is set to be integrated into all of its products that are fitted with the 15.5-inch portrait touchscreen infotainment system, allowing users to participate in meetings from the comfort of their own car. The Mustang Mach-E also has a 15.5-inch touchscreen.

Webex explains that by integrating into Ford's infotainment operating system, you'll even be able to control its app while on the go, using its voice command system. Webex promises that with the power of Ford's Sync 4A, featuring HTML5 capabilities, it can offer a next-generation meeting experience that could even be more capable than your average laptop.

Darren Palmer, Vice President of Ford's Electric Vehicle Programs, expressed his excitement with the announcement of this partnership that will be integrated into all current and future EVs from the brand. He says, "We're looking at ways to bring the human connection in. We don't see why people wouldn't be using their vehicles as a fantastic quality office, to be able to collaborate together."

Ford sees their electric vehicles not just as a place to make a call or join a meeting, but making EVs the best place to hold a meeting.

If you're worried about the system being too distracting for drivers, Ford confirms that users will only be able to use the video feature if the car is stationary. Once on the go, only the vocal element will be available to the driver. The companies add that this is just the beginning of their relationship as they have more plans to push automotive digitalization forward.

With the announcement that Ford will be splitting its EV and ICE divisions, we can expect even more of these collaborations to be revealed to us in the future. The Blue Oval is dedicating an immense amount of funds to be used for the development of both electromobility and automation. Granted, adding a conference call app into an infotainment system isn't all too game-changing, but it's a good launching point for things to come.
