Families normally gather at this time of the year to celebrate the holidays together but, unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic is disrupting those plans. To help lighten the mood, Ford has enlisted the assistance of Clark and Ellen Griswold who know a thing or two about big family Christmas celebrations. Comic legend Chevy Chase and actress Beverly D'Angelo have reprised their iconic "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" roles for a new Ford Mustang Mach-E commercial where they reenact the famous house lights scene.
Like in the movie, Ellen comes to Clark's rescue by simply flipping the right electrical switch. Only this time, the Mach-E provided the juice for the Christmas lights.
"It's great to be back for another Christmas with my on-screen family and its rotating assortment of kids - and I have Ford and Mustang Mach-E to thank for paying me to do it," said Chase. "I suppose you're expecting some sort of riff on electric cars, but I can say with 85% certainty that this thing probably won't cause any blackouts in your neighborhood when you plug it in." Those of us who are fans of the 1989 movie know exactly what Chase is talking about.
His on-screen wife was equally thrilled for the reunion. "My favorite side kick role is playing Ellen Griswold to Chevy's Clark, my one and only Sparky," D'Angelo said. "But this year, the brightest spark is the Mustang Mach-E in the driveway! Please don't tell him I said that. I'm already in trouble for bringing a different set of kids every time we go on a vacation."
Ford adds the Mustang Mach-E will be featured in a new short for the SNL Christmas Special scheduled to air on December 22. The Mach-E is currently arriving in dealerships across the US, though customers who placed preorders beginning a year ago are receiving their vehicles first.
Last month, the EPA officially confirmed the range rating of every Mach-E trim, beginning with the standard-range AWD variant's 211-mile rating. Opting for RWD increases that to 230 miles. Those who want the maximum range should select the extended range, RWD model and its 300 miles of estimated driving on a single charge.
