Are we looking at a more powerful Raptor R version, or is Ford teasing accessories?
Way back in February of this year, Ford revealed the all-new 2023 Ranger Raptor, showing the truck off just hours after company CEO Jim Farley confirmed that the pickup would be making its way to the US in 2023. Not only is this V6-powered truck a capable off-roader, but it's also more economical than you may think, and Americans can't wait to sample the F-150 Raptor's baby brother.
A new teaser posted to social media by Ford and Ford Performance reveals the pickup with a large LED light bar across its roof, with the short clip also giving us a few revs of the engine. So, what is Ford teasing here?
The date posted is not in our format and pertains to the 1st of November, but we know that Ford isn't set to show off anything at SEMA this year as it pulled out of the show in April. That suggests that we're looking at something specific to the Australian and European markets, possibly a new range of Ford Performance aftermarket accessories, which would explain the presence of the LED light bar. However, the caption also talks about "testing and development," and since the USA's output specifications for the Ranger Raptor have not yet been confirmed, this post could well be about the American version after all.
Another theory posited by some commenters online is that Ford is working on a more powerful Ranger Raptor R or a rally-ready version that could compete in Baja racing. We'll know more tomorrow, but this is very intriguing. As a reminder, the Australian market gets the 392-horsepower version of the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost engine, while Europeans have to make do with just 284 hp thanks to stricter emissions regulations. Some countries get even less grunt, with a mildly updated version of the previous generation's 2.0-liter biturbo four-cylinder diesel, but the US is certain to get the gas-powered V6. Hopefully, we'll have access to as much power as the Aussies, or perhaps even more.
