There’s nothing fake about the car, but the beautiful swimsuit model may be far from the real deal.
As we saw earlier with Lotus capitalizing on the charm of swimsuit models for their 2013 Lotus GS campaign, using young and sexy swimsuit models to promote manufacturers' latest cars is a nailed-on way to garner interest. This is a tactic that's been used for decades, but where Ford differs from the norm is the fact that the supermodel they've employed to pose with the 2013 Mustang seems to have been conjured up out of thin air.
According to Adweek, Ford has taken out a full-page ad in the 2012 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition that features a blue 2013 Mustang alongside swimsuit model Dalena Henriques. At first sight there's nothing out of the ordinary here, but dig a little deeper and things get interesting. By running a quick Google search of the model's name, the top result generated is dalenahenriques.com, supposedly the model's personal website. What's odd, however, is that the website only contains pictures of the stunning brunette posing with the Mustang.
The car takes center stage in every shot along with a few curt captions, and the model's face is never revealed. This is a masterstroke of marketing genius by Ford as plenty of guys are going to see the ad and search for more pictures of the gorgeous model. All they'll ultimately find is more shots of the Mustang.
