Ford Ranger Raptor Is Now Officially A Thing - In Australia

Trucks / Comments

The fun begins Down Under in 2018. What about America?

It is happening, in Australia at least. Ford has just announced that it will launch the Ranger Raptor for the Australian market in 2018 as a 2019 model. And yes, the F-150 Raptor is also sold in Australia. Lucky bastards. "We are very excited to bring Asia Pacific's toughest and smartest pickup truck to a whole new level," stated vice president of product development for that region, Trevor Worthington. "Ford Ranger Raptor will offer Ranger fans a fantastic opportunity to own an authentic off-road performance version of their favorite truck for the first time."

So far, Ford hasn't provided details about what's under the hood, or whether it'll be gasoline or diesel. A 10-speed automatic, however, is expected to be the chosen transmission. But what's evidently clear, going by this preview video, is that the Ranger Raptor will be fully equipped with Ford's best off-road components and know-how.

A lot of things have been learned from the F-150 Raptor program, it's just time to downsize all of that. As for America? A new Ranger is due to arrive on our shores in, coincidentally, 2019. Based on the huge success the F-150 Raptor, there's little to no reason Ford will let the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 have all of the mid-size off-road truck fun in America.
