Much to our disappointment, the Ford Ranger Raptor is forbidden fruit in the US. But this isn't the only version of the Ford Ranger that US customers can't buy. In the UK, Ford has lifted the wraps off the new special-edition Ford Ranger Thunder with unique exterior and interior enhancements and new standard features. Limited to 4,500 examples, the Ford Ranger Thunder is based on the popular Ranger Wildtrak specification.

To distinguish it from the standard model, the Ford Ranger Thunder is finished in Sea Grey and rides on exclusive 18-inch black alloy wheels. Ebony Black trim is also applied to the front grille, rear bumper, skid plates, fog light surrounds, load bay sports hoop, and door handles for a more sinister look.

Bold red accents applied to the grille and sports hoop are complemented by "Thunder" badges with a three-dimensional effect on the driver and front passenger doors and tailgate, and "Ranger" logo finished in matte black.

LED headlights with darkened bezels are fitted as standard, with darkened taillight bezels at the rear. The Ranger Thunder also includes a load bay bedliner and Black Mountain Top powder-coated roller shutter, which are popular options for Ranger customers. A new load bay divider added for the first time completes the exterior enhancements.

Inside, the special-edition Ranger comes with Ebony leather seats featuring distinctive "Thunder" red embroidery and matching stitching across the steering wheel, seats, instrument panel, and key touchpoints throughout the cabin.

Black floor mats are also included as standard along with bespoke red-illuminated sill plates. "With an edgier look for customers who aren't afraid to be noticed, the new Ranger Thunder will be an unmistakeable presence on or off the road," said Hans Schep, general manager, Commercial Vehicles, Ford of Europe. "This capable, comfortable and stylish addition to Europe's best-selling pick-up range is as tough and versatile as it is charismatic."

Powering the Ford Ranger Thunder is a twin-turbo 2.0-liter diesel engine producing 210 horsepower, which bypasses the smaller turbocharger at higher engine speeds to provide maximum boost from the larger turbocharger. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission. According to Ford, the Ranger had its best best-ever sales year in 2019, with 52,500 vehicles sold in Europe.
