Ford Releases Upgraded Police Interceptor

Taurus-based Police Interceptor gets a more powerful V6 for 2013.

Yesterday we brought you news that Dodge had upgraded its Charger Pursuit vehicle for 2013 with all-wheel drive, but the Charger isn't the only police vehicle on the market for law enforcement officials. Ford commands a big share of that market with its Police Interceptor sedan and SUV, and has now released upgrades for the former as well. Based on the Taurus, the Police Interceptor sedan is now being made available with Ford's new 3.7-liter V6.

Complete with twin independent variable camshaft timing, the 3.7 delivers improvements to both output and fuel economy. Its 305 horsepower and 279 lb-ft of torque - the highest output from any naturally-aspirated V6 engine available to police forces, all the while delivering 25 mpg on the highway, 18 in the city and 21 combined - a vital improvement for police commissioners looking to trim fuel expenditures across the force. The new 3.7-liter V6 joins the base 3.5-liter unit and the 3.7-liter EcoBoost turbocharged V6 in the Police Interceptor range. The vehicle also boasts top safety ratings from the to keep the boys in blue protected out there on the road.
