Ford has prepared a unique one-off 2013 Mustang GT special edition for the 2012 EAA AirVenture show. Set to be auctioned off for charity, the new Mustang GT, dubbed the Red Tails Edition, was inspired by the African-American World War II squadron of P-51 Mustang fighter pilots. The Tuskegee Airmen, as they were known, contributed much not only to the war effort but also to aviation and civil rights, and were recently immortalized in the Red Tails action film.

The new celebratory edition Mustang features a unique exterior finish, suspension handling package, quad-exhaust and a host of other changes. The interior has also been upgrade with performance gauges, Recaro racing seats in the front, stripped rear seats and unique sill plates.

The 2013 Mustang GT Red Tails Edition runs on a 600-plus horsepower V8 engine. It is set to go under the hammer on Thursday, July 26, at the 2012 EAA Gathering of Eagles. All proceeds will go to benefit the Experimental Aircraft Association Young Eagles Program, an initiative aimed at generating interest amongst young people in flying. The event is held annually in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, at the Wittmann Regional Airport.
