Ford was one of the first automakers to develop a high-performance version of a mid-size family sedan. The original SHO was launched in 1989 and featured a Yamaha V-8. While it developed a loyal following, the SHO no longer made economic sense for Ford to continue producing after a few years. Now that a new Taurus has been launched, Ford wanted to showcase its all-new high performance EcoBoost and the Taurus SHO edition was the perfect way to do so.
The EcoBoost is a 3.5 liter twin-turbo direct-injected V-6 with 365 horsepower. Unlike the older SHO powerplant, this new engine delivers V-8 performance but with the fuel economy of a V-6 using state-of-the-art technology. The SHO has all-wheel drive standard and loads of hi-tech features which prove little doubt that Ford has finally put its game face back on.
