AutoWeek has reported that Ford Motor Company will reveal a near-production ready concept of the Ford Escape replacement at next month's Detroit Auto Show. Not only will this concept be a clear preview of the next Escape, it's also the Europe-only Ford Kuga crossover's replacement. As a part of the automaker's "One Ford" global product strategy, the Escape and Kuga will merge into a single vehicle.

The new crossover is based off the 2012 Focus' platform and will most likely begin production sometime in the second half of 2012 as an early 2013 model. However, both the Escape and Kuga names are well-established in their respective markets, so it'll be interesting what name(s) Ford ends up choosing. It wasn't an issue for the upcoming Focus, as that name was already being used world-wide. It'll be interesting to see how Ford handles this, as they'll have the same problem when the next Fusion merges platforms with the European Mondeo.
