It's not very often that a car movie gets the attention of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The high-budget and long-running Fast & Furious film franchise has always been a favorite amongst car lovers, but the films have never drawn much acclaim with fans of cinema. Those movies are filled with action and cool stunts, sure, yet they lack the clever writing and plot necessary to be appreciated by film critics of the highest order. 2017's Baby Driver proved that a car movie could draw attention from The Academy, and this year, Ford V Ferrari has continued the trend of critically acclaimed car films.

Ford V Ferrari was already a box office success, earning over $200 million globally on a reported budget of $100 million. The summary of the film, if you haven't already seen it, shows how the original Ford GT and a team of underdogs challenged Ferrari's dominance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Not only is the movie a true blockbuster, but it has has been nominated for the Academy's most prestigious award of Best Picture.

The list of Oscar nominations has been released and Ford V Ferrari is among the candidates for Best Picture. Ford V Ferrari will compete against The Irishmen, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, Little Women, Marriage Story, 1917, Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood, and Parasite for the Best Picture award of 2019. The film was also nominated for the Film Editing, Sound Editing, and Sound Mixing awards. We are quite surprised that Christian Bale was not at least nominated for Best Actor in a Leading or Supporting role for his excellent portrayal of professional race car driver, Ken Miles.

Las Vegas has Once Upon A Time in Hollywood as the betting favorite for Best Picture, with Ford V Ferrari as a distant underdog in most books. Some even have Ford V Ferrari at +10,000 odds, meaning you would win $10,000 on a $100 bet if the film actually won Best Picture. In short, the odds might be perfect for the plot of Uncut Gems, but simply being nominated for Best Picture is an honor. Additionally, Ford V Ferrari has much better odds in the Film Editing, Sound Editing, and Sound Mixing awards.
