The Ford Flex has stuck around since 2007, but the funky three-row crossover failed to set sales figures compared to other SUVs from the Blue Oval automaker like the Explorer and Edge. It came as no surprise, then, when Ford announced the Flex will be discontinued for 2020.

To give the Flex a send-off for its last year on the market, Ford dealers are offering a massive discount for this unloved crossover this month.

As reported by Ford Authority, the 2019 Ford Flex is currently being offered with up to a $4,500 discount until September 30. This offer applies to the range-topping 2019 Flex AWD Limited, which has a $2,000 customer cash discount plus a $500 select inventory cash discount and a $2,000 bonus cash discount, bringing the total discount to $4,500. With the discount applied, the starting price drops from $38,495 down to $33,995.

The 2019 Flex SE, SEL, and Limited trims are also being offered with a $3,000 retail incentive but may require Ford Credit financing. These offers are also not available with special finance, lease, and some other offers.

According to Ford Authority, the $4,500 discount only applies to vehicles that arrived at dealer lots at least 61 days prior to the sale date, so it appears the discounts are being applied to try and shift unsold models that have been sitting on dealer lots for over two months.

For the 2019 model year, the Ford Flex received a minor update with two new exterior color choices, Agate Black and Stone Gray. All trims are powered by a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine producing 290 horsepower and 254 lb-ft of torque, though the range-topping Limited trim is also available with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost good for 365 hp and 350 lb-ft. Ford Flex sales increased by 37 percent to 7,206 units in Q2 2019, so the discount could continue this momentum in Q3.
