There is open slot for a sports car in the lineup, after all.
It looks as though Mitsubishi’s Evo is on its way out the door (yes, the electric based EVo was an April Fool's post), much to the despair of its many loyal fans. However, there’s new word coming in that Mitsubishi may offer another new sports car, and bring back a famous name from the past at the same time. Word has it this model won’t be a sedan, but a 2+2 coupe that will be a spiritual successor to the long discontinued 3000GT. However, it’s expected to be a plug-in hybrid with all-wheel-drive.
This would make sense considering Mitsubishi is working to rebrand itself as more of a green automaker. For those who recall, the original 3000GT also featured all-wheel-drive and many advanced technologies for its time. As one of the more popular Japanese performance coupes of the 1990s, it too created a following. If Mitsubishi does go ahead with the project, then the new 3000GT would also serve as a display of the brand’s technological abilities. As for the Evo, the latest reports claim that it’ll be discontinued by the end of this model year.
