If you drive a four-cylinder Bronco, you'll have come to appreciate its off-roading and remarkable go-anywhere ability. There's not much to hate but, admit it, you wish Ford had given the 2.3-liter engine a touch more power, right? Well, if you're craving more performance, you'll be pleased to know that Ford Performance has introduced an upgrade package.

The Performance Calibration tune unlocks more muscle, boosting power from 300 to 330 horsepower. The upgrade also provides a healthy dollop of torque, with 385 lb-ft up for grabs. Ford Performance says this should provide enhanced performance without sacrificing reliability.

That makes the 2.3-liter model nearly as powerful as the stock 2.7-liter V6. As a reminder, the six-cylinder Bronco produces 330 hp and 415 lb-ft. On the base Bronco, opting for the large engine adds $1,895 to the final price. Now, Ford Performance is offering similar performance and power for less - the Performance Calibration tune costs just $825.

There are other benefits to the tune, though. Throttle response is greatly improved throughout the rev range, for example, while vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission benefit from an optimized shift schedule. Manual Bronco models gain down-shift rev-matching capabilities.

The modification also unlocks further improvement possibilities. Ford Performance says it can handle tire sizes up to 37x12.5 with additional modifications. The axle ratio can also be changed up to 4.70.

Ford offers a three-year/36,000-mile warranty as long as the tune is installed by a Ford dealer or ASE/Red Seal certified technician.

Unfortunately, this isn't available in California as it does not have regulatory approval from the state. If you live in one of the 49 other states (or Canada), just note that premium fuel is required to run this setup.

If you're thinking of ordering this part for your Bronco, you might as well go all the way and order a new exhaust system from AWE as well. Not only does the custom setup provide a throatier sound, but the company's 0FG Catback Exhaust provides an additional 3 hp and 3 lb-ft. It looks great and has been reinforced for off-roading too.

Like its deadliest rival, the Jeep Wrangler, Ford's Bronco enjoys a strong following. These loyal customers love nothing more than spending money on their cherished 4x4s. Since the vehicle's introduction, more than 1 million accessories have been sold, allowing dealerships to amass rather generous profits - customers spend an average of $1,700 personalizing their Broncos.
