Fourth-Generation Renault Clio Officially Released

Renault debuts the fourth generation of its most vital product.

Renault has been hard at work preparing its new fourth-generation Clio and today we get to see the finished product of the French automaker's efforts. Set for debut later this year at the Paris Motor Show, the Clio IV is a vital product for Renault in the form of five-door hatch which shows off Renault's new styling language. Influenced by the awesome DeZir Concept which first made its debut at the Paris show in 2010, the new Clio adopts a sharper design than the model it replaces.

More pronounced wheel arches are joined by a more tailored flank, with a bolder grille spanning from headlight to headlight. Renault says the new Clio was developed to incorporate "affordable innovative technologies." They include a back-up camera, Renault R-Sound app, bass reflex system, keyless entry and the company's R-Link system, an integrated internet-connected touchscreen tablet interface. The dashboard has been "sculpted in the shape of an aircraft wing" while piano-black trim spruces up the interior.

The Renault Clio IV also boasts a lineup of new engines. A pair of gasoline engines, the Energy TCe 90 and TCe 120, both offer "low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions with responsive performance and mid-range acceleration." The TCe 90 is a 3-cylinder turbocharged powerplant producing 90 hp and 100 lb-ft of torque while consuming only 4.3 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers and emitting just 99g/km of CO2. The larger 1.2-liter 4-cylinder TCe 120 mates a six-speed Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) gearbox with a turbocharger and direct fuel injection to produce 120 hp and 140 lb-ft of torque. The diesel option comprises a 90hp 1.4-liter four with 162 lb-ft of torque.

The new Clio will go on sale this October and carry a starting price of about £11,000. The Renaultsport version, which we recently saw running up the hill at Goodwood, will make its way to the market next Spring.
