This could have been easily avoided.
When the organizers of Balloonfest in Waterford, Wisconsin, learned their day of hot air ballooning could be at risk due to impending storms, they simply declared "the show must go on." The result was inevitable and despite attempting to pack up before the storm struck, balloons can be seen here launching into the air with pilots clinging onto baskets for dear life. A 5,000-pound fullsize SUV was also dragged across a field for hundreds of feet before it crashed into some tents near the staging area.
Thankfully nobody was injured, and hopefully organizers will pay closer attention to the weather radars next time around.
