A few weeks ago, the 2021 BMW M4 and M3 entered production, marking the start of a new era for BMW's beloved sports coupe and sedan. We'll have to wait and see if the controversial new design direction affects sales, but for those who have already placed an order the online configurator for the 2021 BMW M4 is now live, allowing future owners to customize the sports coupe to their unique specification.

First, you'll need to choose between the standard M4 or the more potent Competition variant. Starting at $71,800, the standard M4's 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six generates 473 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual.

Opting for the Competition model increases the output to 503 hp and 479 lb-ft and replaces the manual transmission with an eight-speed automatic. An AWD version of the M4 Competition will also arrive next summer.

For the exterior, only two color options are available free of charge: Alpine White and Sao Paulo Yellow. The more eye-catching metallic colors start at $550, while the more expensive Frozen Brilliant White and Frozen Portimao Blue metallic finishes will set you back $3,600. 19- or 20-inch wheels are also available with a range of colors and designs. As standard, the M4 comes with an all-black interior, but if you want a more striking design the leather seats can be customized with bright yellow, orange, or white accents.

Carbon fiber trim can also be added for an additional $950. Alternatively, BMW Individual offers more lavish wood and aluminum trims but these options can extend the build time by up to ten weeks.

As you would expect, a plethora of optional extras are available, including a driver assistance professional package that adds various driver assists for $1,700, an $800-parking assistance package, and an executive package for $3,000. Additional options include carbon bucket seats, a carbon exterior package, and M ceramic brakes. Fully loaded, the total cost of our customized 2021 BMW M4 Competition came to $100,495 including the $995 destination charge. Sadly, there's no option to replace the gigantic grille, but tuning companies are already working on body kits to make the front look like the old M4.
