Fully Loaded Subaru WRX Sedan Costs Over $50,000

That's more than the outgoing WRX STI.

The 2022 Subaru WRX was revealed not so long ago and while not everyone has been bowled over by the sporty sedan, it is a better car than its predecessor in the ways that count. Starting at under $30,000 for the base model, the top-spec GT trim is much pricier at $41,895. Subaru has now gone live with the configurator for the 2022 WRX and we went all out to find out how much it's possible to spend on the sedan. We started with the GT and then added a number of accessories, some of which enhance the sedan's practicality and some which give it an even racier appearance. The sheer number of individual accessories is more what you'd associate with an SUV or truck than a sedan.

Although there are no major packages for the GT since it is highly specified as standard, it can still be upgraded via a plethora of accessories. We finished our WRX GT in Solar Orange Pearl, but it's nice to see that none of the color options cost anything extra. WR Blue Pearl, Crystal Black Silica, and Ignition Red are a few of the other shades that you can choose from. However, the interior is limited to black Ultrasuede/StarTex upholstery. From there, we added LED fog light trim for $449.95, an engine under guard for $199.95, STI performance mufflers for $1,200, an STI starter switch for $249.95, and carbon fiber trunk trim for $336.

A trunk spoiler costs $475 and a LED grille emblem costs $349.95. Other STI additions included a leather shift knob, a side under spoiler, and a front under spoiler.

Inside, a few of the other features we added include a footwell illumination kit for $190 and Ultrasuede trim on the center console and dashboard. In total, our chosen list of accessories came to over $9,500 and resulted in a final price of $52,421 including destination - it's possible to raise this price even higher by selecting specific features. Elsewhere in the lineup, the WRX Premium is the first and only trim to come with a package at $1,875 that adds an 11-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system and a power moonroof.

Lower trims come with a similarly long list of accessories, with 71 individual extras available for the entry-level model. By comparison, the Honda Civic Si - less than $2,000 cheaper but with much less power - comes with only 26 accessories and four accessory packages. If you want a sporty sedan to make your own, the WRX is clearly the better choice.

Regardless of the WRX you go for, it comes with a 271-horsepower 2.4-liter Boxer turbocharged engine and symmetrical all-wheel drive. The new WRX may not be the rally car for the road it once was, but with all Subaru's trimmings, it's one of the sportiest compact sedans you can buy.
