Seriously, we're talking serious cash here.
If only all blockbuster movies had opening weekends like this. It's every major studio's dream. "Furious 7" opened in the US last Friday night and on that night alone took in $15.8 million. "Fast and Furious 6" brought in $6.5 million on its opening night, just for comparison. Looking at past examples a bit further, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1" brought in $17 million on its opening night, and scored a $122 million opening weekend. "Furious 7" is now expected to bring in a similar number.
And also remember this: this seventh film in the series hasn't even premiered in China, Japan, and Russia. That'll happen this week. But in only two days in 45 other international markets, the film has earned about $60 million. If everything keeps going the way it is, "Furious 7" could end up grossing over a billion dollars in cinemas alone.
