We already knew that "Furious 7" would become a massive money-maker for Universal Studios. But what's particularly mind blowing is just how fast it's earned its way to not only the top of the box office, but as a new record holder as well. 17 days after its initial premiere, "Furious 7" has just crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office, making it the fastest film ever to reach that amount. To put that into perspective, "Furious 7" beat out "Avatar," "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part 2" and "The Avengers," which took 19 days to earn $1 billion.

NBCUniversal vice chairman Ron Meyer stated he's "incredibly proud of the motion picture team at Universal, the cast and filmmakers of the 'Fast and Furious' for all they have done to take our original idea and evolve it into a huge, global, blockbuster franchise." If the current pace continues, then "Furious 7" looks to be heading towards a $1.3-$1.4 billion run, putting it in the Top 5 global-box office premieres of all time.
