G-Power Beats AMG To Black Series GT With 610-HP Mercedes-AMG GT S

When a BMW tuner commits treason and works on a Mercedes, you know things are going to get interesting.

If stereotypes are your thing, then you likely subscribe to the notion that BMW is the brand for the logic-oriented office worker with a steady job while Mercedes-Benz is a bit more decadent, reserving its wares for the lawyers and real estate brokers who earn their small fortunes making nerve wracking deals and not ascending in pay grade with consistent work. However, the outliers within the BMW camp have always been able to find refuge with G-Power.

Throughout the years the German tuning company has prided itself on supplying your everyday 3 Series sedans and X5 SUVs with ridiculous sums of power, more than enough to corrupt Gandhi and Mother Teresa. However, it took a peep into the Mercedes lineup and just couldn’t resist wrapping its fingers on the AMG GT and GT S because the tuner has just released the Bi-Tronik 5 power module, a software tune that increases power on the German sports car to 610 horsepower, more than the 577 ponies that inhibit even the top tier AMG GT R. The standard AMG GT has 462 horsepower while the GT S pumps out a healthy 503 horsepower, so in either case the upgrade is substantial, enabling a 0-60 mph acceleration run in 3.6 seconds.

This time is actually slower than what Car and Driver was able to pull off in a GT S, but that may be due to the fact that the launch control has a hard time coping with the extra grunt. To save the engine from the side effects of the electronic steroid injection, the software is programed to keep power at stock levels until optimal engine oil temp is reached and to shut off the power valve when water temperature exceeds a preset maximum limit. To complete the package, G-Power adds a set of Hurricane RR wheels, which are lighter than the stock set, reduce unsprung mass, and are available in a variety of colors. If money isn’t an object and you have a belated Christmas gift to buy for an AMG GT owner in your life, look no further.
