Galpin Auto Sports has revealed plans for a 1,000-hp supercar inspired by the Ford GT that could have been.
At last month's LA Auto Show, Galpin Auto Sports president Beau Boeckmann announced that its very own supercar is currently in the works. The concept behind the project is to create what the Ford GT would have become had Ford not axed the supercar it built in such limited numbers between 2005 and 2006. Galpin is calling its supercar the GTR-1, which will be designed in the spirit of Carroll Shelby, have more than 1,000 horsepower on tap, and be available with a handmade aluminum or carbon-fiber body.
The GR-1 will have a suspension and drivetrain worthy of handling all that power, and customers will get to spec the interior to their liking. More details and pictures are expected closer to the car's debut in early 2013. Famed for its work on the MTV show "Pimp My Ride", Galpin has been customizing cars for years and has a long history with selling performance Ford products stretching back to the Sixties when it was the first dealer in the world to sell Shelby Cobras.
