Reports of this rare Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing's major damage, unfortunately, have not been greatly exaggerated. Der Spiegel recently broke the story of this classic 300 SL Gullwing that crashed in Pleidelsheim, Germany, just north of Stuttgart. It turns out it was in the process of being restored by a company that specializes in classic Benzes. But then a young mechanic who works at the resto shop took the car out for a ride and drove just a little too fast.

N/A

Reports claim he went above the 80 km/h (about 50 mph) speed limit but somehow lost control and went off the side of the road and rolled over. He and his passenger escaped without injury but the car itself had an estimated $830,000 worth of damage. Its owner supposedly remained calm when told of the accident since both the car and the garage are insured. But still, it's horrible to see such a wonderful car in this sorry state.
