Genesis Confirms Its EV Will Be Sold Across The Entire USA

Scoop / 1 Comment

It will happen before the brand goes full BEV by 2030.

Genesis has stated that its all-electric vehicle lineup will be sold everywhere there's a Genesis dealership. This will happen well before Genesis goes entirely battery-electric by 2030. The brand made the announcement at the launch of the Genesis Electrified GV70, which you can read about shortly.

"Our EV sales expansion is very deliberate, and we're making sure there's enough product availability," said Jarred Pellat, Senior Manager for PR and Communications of Genesis North America. "We're making sure dealers are onboard and going through the EV certification process. Genesis EVs will be sold everywhere Genesis vehicles are sold. They will be everywhere." Pellat could not confirm a specific date, only reiterating the process is in full swing.

This process won't happen overnight, obviously, but the South Korean luxury brand has already made significant progress. Currently, the GV60 is sold in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Utah, and Washington. The Electrified GV80 is sold in these states, too, along with Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Virginia.

The Electrified GV70 is also the only Genesis all-electric vehicle built in the US at the automaker's Montgomery, Alabama factory. Interestingly, Pellat also confirmed only the US will receive Alabama-built vehicles. Canada, Europe, and all other markets will see their Electrified GV70s imported from South Korea.

The Alabama factory, officially called the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA), stands out among vehicle production plants because it has a single assembly line capable of producing the Hyundai Sonata, Elantra, Santa Cruz, Santa Fe, Tucson, and the Electrified GV70. The plant's robots know the difference between vehicles as they come down the line.

For example, robots eject a clear coat and mix for a Hyundai vehicle and then switch paint mixtures when the system detects an Electrified GV70. Cool. Production for the 2023 Electrified GV70 is currently underway, with arrival at dealerships in those states mentioned above imminent.

For all Genesis BEVs, buyers will receive three years of 30-minute complimentary charging sessions at Electrify America DC fast chargers beginning the day of purchase. Owners can find those charging stations by simply using the Genesis Connected Services and Electrify America mobile apps.

The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 will cost $65,850 for the Advanced trim and $72,650 for the Prestige. Neither price includes the $1,125 destination fee. Buyers are eligible for the $7,500 EV tax credit, courtesy of the Inflation Reduction Act.
