Genesis has unveiled its latest creation, the GV80 Coupe Concept, at Genesis House in New York City. Now, before you get all excited, the South Korean luxury brand has not specifically stated it plans to put this vehicle into production. What it did confirm is that it "serves as a statement of intent for the future, hinting towards more emotional and performance-oriented models."

To us, that sounds like it's production-bound at some point. Fingers crossed. In the meantime, the GV80 Coupe Concept is a four-seater with styling inspired by the X Speedium Coupe Concept that was first shown to the world at last year's New York Auto Show. Compared to the standard GV80 SUV, the concept is a lifestyle-oriented vehicle with sports car-inspired dynamics. They're definitely not hard to spot.

Take note of the aggressive and wide stance, big wheels, and several performance-focused items like an upper rear spoiler and the spoiler lip on the elliptical ducktail, which Genesis says provides downforce at high speeds.

Speaking of performance, this concept is not an EV, or at least it doesn't appear to be. There are four slots in the front bumper that help to optimize cooling. The press release doesn't say anything about what's under the hood.

The Double G-Matrix Patterned Crest Grille looks fantastic as well, surrounded by quad headlights that wrap around to the side and feature new multi-lens array technology. The front fender features a "Designed by Genesis" plaque and there are five-spoke forged aluminum wheels at each corner. And yes, that is a carbon fiber roof that helps to reduce the center of gravity as well as shave weight.

At the rear, the rear lamps "complete the Two Lines signature." That bold and bright exterior paint color is very appropriately called Magma. The interior is also unlike anything else Genesis has done. There are four bucket seats that provide the necessary support during cornering. They each also have a body color-painted carbon fiber backrest. Additional structural stiffness comes by way of the G-Matrix strut brace located behind the rear seats.

Hey, no one ever said this SUV was intended to be made for hauling groceries. Other interior features include a three-spoke steering wheel, black Nappa and suede leather front and rear seats with plaid double stitching, orange piping, and carbon fiber weaves.

"At its inception, the Genesis brand began creating luxury sedans, which evolved into the G70, G80, and G90 models," said Luc Donckerwolke, Group Chief Creative Officer. "Over the past seven years, we have added more lifestyle-oriented models to the portfolio, such as our GV80 and GV70 SUVs. Now we are pushing the envelope with more emotional cars that elevate Genesis' performance and dynamic attributes."

Genesis is clearly heading in a sportier, more performance-focused direction with the GV80 Coupe Concept, aiming directly at the likes of the BMW X6. We're all for that happening.
