Genesis has no intention of becoming an SUV-only luxury brand. This is best evidenced by the latest expansion of its already excellent sedan lineup. Introducing the 2022 Genesis G80 Sport, a new trim that gives the midsize sedan greater appeal thanks to several exterior and interior design enhancements. Genesis even created a new body paint color specifically for the trim, called Cavendish Red.

Continuing with its "Athletic Elegance" design language, the G80 Sport stands out from the base version thanks to a unique front end featuring a radiator grille in dark glossy chrome, black bezels surrounding the headlights, and a cool 3D wing-shaped front bumper.

Moving around the sedan you'll also notice the continuation of the dark glossy chrome found on the side moldings. A set of 20-inch dark alloy wheels with a G-Matrix pattern and a choice of red or black brake calipers are exclusive to the model as well. The rear end also has its own unique thing going on with a restyled and more aggressive-looking bumper, a new diffuser, and a different color for the trunk lid molding.

Stepping inside, the general interior layout remains the same but plenty of styling add-ons are instantly noticeable. There's a three-spoke steering wheel, trim-exclusive diamond or V pattern seat quilting designs, and three new interior color options including black monotone with grey or red stitching, and Seville red.

Our favorite interior upgrade is the choice between real aluminum, carbon, and a diamond-patterned hybrid weaving pattern for the dashboard. Think of the G80 Sport as a good alternative for those who want a G70 but need something slightly bigger.

No details are available yet for what's under the hood but we hope it'll be the more powerful 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 with 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque instead of the base 2.5-liter turbo-four with 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of twist. It's still a bit premature to know the exact pricing or time of availability, but Genesis specifically says a full reveal will take place later this summer or early fall.
