Genesis is a recent entrant into the luxury segment and the Korean brand has seen a steady increase in sales for 2019. The G70 sedan is proving to be a hot seller but Genesis is in clear need of an SUV in this crossover-crazed sales climate. Genesis plans to introduce three SUV models by 2021, the first of which will be a mid-size model called the GV80. The GV80 has been spotted testing and the renderings based on the prototype and concept look fantastic.

After the GV80, Genesis will reveal a second, compact SUV called the GV70 to compete against the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Mercedes-Benz GLC. We've previously spotted the GV70 out testing and rendering artist Nikita Chuyko has used images of the camouflaged car to create a realistic rendering.

The rendering appears to be true to what the production GV70 could look like, featuring a unique split headlight design with a grille similar to other Genesis models. In the rear, the vertical exhaust pipes from the test car have been used in the rendering, creating a one-of-a-kind style we haven't seen on any other SUVs. The side profile is also unique with a sloping roofline, distinctive C-pillar, and triangular rear glass. We can see a bit of resemblance in the side profile to another Korean SUV, the Hyundai Palisade.

Leaked documents have revealed the engines in the larger GV80 - either a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 304 horsepower or a 3.5-liter V6 with 380 horsepower. If this leak turns out to be true, we expect the GV70 to receive the same powertrains going out to rear- or all-wheel-drive through a new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic.

The GV80 will be revealed before the GV70 but has reportedly been delayed due to certification issues with its new engines. We don't expect the GV70 to be revealed until later in 2020 with a release in 2021.
