The Genesis Electrified GV70 isn't far off now, and is a great blend of the GV70's evocative design with a powerful electric powertrain. The crossover took to the stage at the Auto Guangzhou in China to show off its dual-motor-powered system that generates a modest 365 horsepower figure. Energy is sourced from an 87.2-kWh battery with 350-kW charging capacity.

Things have been silent regarding exactly when a market introduction for the USA would take place but there was word that local production would begin by sometime this year. Thanks to a new report by The Korean Car Blog that sources information from Hyundai insiders, we now have a clearer idea of when the EV SUV will begin its production run.

It is understood that Hyundai conducted a meeting with employees only at its Asan plant in South Korea where everything from the Sonata to the Palisade is put together. Here, an announcement was made that the Genesis Electrified GV70 would be produced at the brand's Alabama plant before this year comes to an end, serving as further confirmation of the news we first heard in November last year. The company is expecting to add more electric models thereafter.

Hyundai is making this decision because it has noticed how rapidly the electric car market has grown in the U.S. This momentum is unlikely to falter as the cost of gas continually rises. Furthermore, the brand wants to take full advantage of President Biden's pro-locally produced EV policy that includes conclusive subsidies.

The existing GV70 range that is produced at the Alabama plant has also been seeing some impressive success in the new car market despite the ongoing supply chain crisis. This performance has contributed to the South Korean group's decision to implement a local production run for its new EV.

Regarding the decision to add the Electrified GV70 to its U.S. production plant, an unnamed industry official said, "The local production of the GV70 EV is a strategy movement to speed up the conversion to electric vehicles and at the same time solidify its position as a premium brand in the U.S market."

Based on the new production timeline, we expect deliveries of the Electrified GV70 to begin early next year.
