Now this is the send-off the G-Class deserves. The granddaddy isn't ready to retire just yet.
The Mercedes G-Class is nearing retirement, which has spawned several new special edition models such as the Mercedes-AMG G63 And G65 Exclusive Editions and G65 Final Edition. However, these special edition models only offer cosmetic changes over the standard SUV. If you want to experience the already-extreme Mercedes-AMG G-Class with some extra grunt, there are plenty of aftermarket options. German tuner Posaidon, for example, has produced one of the most powerful tuned G-Wagons we’ve ever seen based on the G63.
Normally, the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 Mercedes AMG G63 produces 571 horsepower, but Posaidon has boosted that up to a monstrous 850 hp with a hefty 995 lb-ft of torque. Rather aptly, Posaidon calls its tuning package the G63 RS 850. Such a substantial power upgrade was achieved by remapping the ECU and upgrading the transmission internals. With these modifications, the G63 850 RS needs only 3.6 seconds to sprint from 0-62 mph and can reach a top speed of 177 mph. Complementing the performance upgrades are new adaptive dampers, 22-inch alloys and gold brake calipers from the S63 AMG.
Customers can also customize the G63 850 RS’s interior with carbon fiber accents, yellow contrast stitching, and quilted leather. There’s no word on how much this modified Mercedes-AMG G63 costs, however. Given that a standard G63 will set you back around $140,000, we wouldn’t be surprised if you had to double that figure. Still, it’s an appropriately extreme send-off for one of the most powerful and capable off-roaders ever made. The granddaddy isn’t ready to retire just yet.
