German tuner has big plans for the luxury hardcore roadster.
The 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL63 has only been on the scene for a few months, but the aftermarket tuning scene has already started getting its claws into this German beauty. This all-new R232 generation model is the first to be developed from the ground up by the AMG department and delivers a hammer-blow of performance, but a certain tuner that we love to hate thinks that it can improve on what has taken Mercedes-AMG thousands of hours to perfect. Say hello to the Manhart SL 800 R. Manhart is a German tuning company specializing in luxury German sports cars, and has delivered some of the most outrageous builds we've ever seen. This tuner loves to make a mess of BMWs, but will sometimes venture into the Mercedes stable, and this SL is its latest victim.
Thankfully, these images are only renders, but it gives us a clear idea of what Manhart plans to do with the Mercedes-AMG SL63 in the near future. As with so many other Manhart builds, this SL features the company's trademark black and gold color scheme, and we'll be honest, it doesn't look half bad. The gold highlights on the lower front intakes and the gold pinstriping around the wheels are a nice touch, and we don't mind the bold gold stripes running over the hood and down the side of the car either. The five-spoke wheels are also an attractive addition, and the subtle "SL 800 R" badging under the side vents is a clear warning to other drivers that this SL doesn't only look good, but has the performance to match its in-your-face styling as well.
As the figure 800 implies, this SL will produce 800 horsepower from its 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8. In stock form, the SL63 produces 577 hp and 590 lb-ft torque which it channels to all four wheels via an AMG Speedshift MCT nine-speed transmission and a 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. Mercedes-AMG claims a stock 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 193 mph. Manhart plans to achieve a power output of 800 hp and over 738 lb-ft by using an in-house developed turbo kit, along with a new intercooler and carbon intake. To improve the looks and handling, Manhart will also throw in a set of lowering springs. That all sounds fine, Manhart - just don't put a massive wing on it.
