Only a week ago we learned that Alfa Romeo has something pretty amazing officially coming. Thing is, the venue where it was likely going to debut has since been canceled. The fact that the Geneva Motor Show isn't happening this year due to the Coronavirus outbreak has caused automakers to reevaluate their respective debut plans and Alfa Romeo is one of them. But fortunately, that amazing debut appears to be imminent. Thanks to a Facebook teaser video (below), it appears the iconic Italian automaker is preparing to show us something pretty incredible. More than likely, that debut will be the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA. Why the GTA and not, say, a new 8C sports car?

Because the clip clearly shows old school footage of the classic 1960s era Giulia GTA. This was a performance two-door coupe known for its lightweight construction and considerable output.

A teaser image has also been released with this caption: "The pop rivets on the sides and on the fenders give the shell greater solidity and increase the car's stability." Why is this a significant clue in this case? Because the original Giulia GTA featured lightweight aluminum body panels in place of the typical steel. These panels had pop rivets connecting them to the inner steel panels. It's entirely possible the company is doing something similar once again in order to make the Giulia GTA stand out from the already excellent Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio.

A power boost from the Ferrari-derived 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 is also very possible. In the Giulia QV, it produces 505 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque.

Ever since the Giulia QV launched back in 2016, many have claimed it's the new benchmark high-performance luxury sports sedan, overtaking the typical BMW M3 standard-bearer. Given that an all-new M3 will debut very soon, it's clear Alfa Romeo fully plans to stay in the fight.

What's unclear, at least at this time, is whether or not the Giulia GTA is US-bound. We'll hopefully have our answer very soon.
