It's not uncommon for automakers to offer a discount on a new car if you already own a competitor model to lure new buyers - and that's exactly what General Motors is doing throughout August.

As reported by Cars Direct, General Motors is offering an extra discount to buyers who already own a Jeep, Chrysler, or Dodge. The best part is that you don't even need to trade your FCA car to take advantage. Dealer incentives obtained by Cars Direct reveal that General Motors is offering a $750 discount when buying and $250 off when leasing. In the case of Chevrolet models, this incentive can be combined with offers worth up to 15 percent.

To be eligible, customers need to prove that they or someone in their household owns a 2006 or newer Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or RAM vehicle. If you prefer to lease, you'll need to own a 2015 or newer FCA model.

Sadly, only a few General Motors models are eligible for the incentive: the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab, GMC Terrain, and GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab. $750 may sound like a small incentive, but combining it with existing offers can add up to some significant savings.

For example, the 2021 GMC Terrain Denali is currently available with $7,360 off the MSRP with an Employee Pricing offer and a $4,000 cash incentive. Add the new $750 incentive, and you can save $8,100 off the 2021 GMC Terrain, which isn't bad at all. It's worth noting, however, that other available incentives can vary depending on the configuration.

The discount also can't be combined with deals such as the current 84-month zero-percent APR offer available on the Equinox. Effectively, GM is paying you to ditch your Dodge, Jeep, or Ram. You may want to act soon, however, because General Motors is only offering the incentive for until August 31.
