GM is taking the all-new GMC Hummer EV to SEMA to showcase the extensive range of accessories it has created for the all-new electric truck.

GM is taking three Edition 1 models; a pre-production SUV and a pair of pickup trucks to show what's possible with the new Hummer. One is production specification, while the other is equipped with a few of the accessories. The display will also include the Hummer-inspired Chip Ganassi Racing Extreme-E electric off-road racer. It should be good at racing, considering it can hit 60 mph in three seconds.

"The all-new GMC Hummer EV Pickup and SUV naturally lend themselves to the growing demand for personalization," said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC. "Their commanding looks draw attention wherever they go, and our accessories portfolio is designed to offer customers more choices to tailor their vehicle with off-road functionality, lifestyle integration, and styling enhancements."

It makes sense for GM to offer so many accessories for what will eventually be its halo electric truck. According to SEMA, customers spent more than $40 billion on specialty-automotive aftermarket sales. The most significant chunk of that money was spent on pickup trucks.

"We knew from the outset that the strong character of the Hummer EV would inspire a high degree of personalization from owners," said Humberto Ortiz, lead designer for performance accessories. "The accessories developed are inspired by its powerful performance capabilities. The accessories' design and functionality integration make them extensions of the vehicles themselves."

Like Jeep put physical auxiliary buttons on the dashboard of the current Wrangler, GMC gave the Hummer digital additional switches controlled via the driver information center. That makes it much easier to control things like off-road lights and winches.

The accessory pickup is equipped with a rugged Power Retractable Tonneau Cover, an off-road recovery kit, and 50-inch roof-mounted off-road light bar, front off-road auxiliary lights, rocker protector with integrated assist steps, a bed-mounted vertical spare tire carrier, Sky Panel Storage Tray Set for eTrunkTM, unique accessory wheel design in Tech Bronze (with Tech Bronze center cap and black lugs), under-seat organizer and I-Bar storage, and cargo management rails.

The Hummer's accessories were designed parallel with the vehicle. "Their design and fit are integrated with the vehicle like regular production components," said Ortiz. "It means they appear and function as if they were installed on the assembly line, with production-level quality, too, compared to universal-type aftermarket components."

Prospective customers will also be happy to learn that the Hummer will not have the same battery pack issues as the Chevrolet Bolt.
