Last December Volkswagen revealed its new Golf R Cabrio in a video, showing it in its last stages of development. But today VW has rolled out the real deal. This drop-to Golf is the fastest-ever production open-top Golf. Power comes from a 2.0-liter turbo inline-four that's good for 270 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque and mated to a six-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox, sending power to the front wheels. It has an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph and will go from 0-62 mph in just 6.4 seconds.

Some design exterior design cues that separate it from the base Golf Cabrio include a bespoke front bumper with a gloss-black grille, LED daytime running lights, bi-xenon headlights, gloss-black door mirror casings and black brake calipers with the "R" logo. Other exterior bits that aid in aerodynamics include side sill extensions and a rear diffuser. There are also chrome-tipped exhausts and smoked LED taillights. The interior's leather seats are wrapped in "Vienna Cool Leather" and there are even more R logos throughout. Brushed aluminum pedals and aluminum trim on the dashboard complete the package. Like the base Golf and GTI cabrio models, the R cabrio will be for Europe only.
