The waiting list is looking longer than the yellow brick road.
Say what you want about GM, but it knows how to keep a secret. The all-new 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was revealed earlier this week, but in the months leading up to the reveal, we had little to no confirmation on pretty much everything the car would offer. Sure, there were rumors, teasers, and the occasional leak, but very little was certain until the car was finally unveiled on Tuesday. With a monumental engine that sounds absolutely exquisite, exceptional handling guaranteed to embarrass much more expensive metal, and looks to sway even the most steadfast European supercar lover, you can be sure that the Z06 will be in high demand. But demand aside, the ongoing chip shortage means that you may have to wait years to get your hands on one.
In a recent social media post, Chris Morgan of Criswell Chevrolet in Maryland says that the waiting list is already three to four years long. Morgan says that his dealer is one of the largest in the country and thus gets a load of C8 allocations - between 80-100 per month on average - but that he does not know how many will be sent to his floor. He knows that Criswell Chevrolet will get more allocations than most other dealers, but with 1,087 reservations already made at just his dealer alone, you can be sure that however many he gets will go out the door as quickly as they come in.
While it sucks that the semiconductor crisis is delaying the delivery of one of the most hotly anticipated American sports cars ever made, there is a glimmer of positivity to be gleaned from Morgan's post. He states unequivocally that no amount of money will persuade him to bump you up the list or force a delivery to come sooner. This implies that all customers will be treated fairly. He also goes on to promise that orders placed at his dealer will be charged at the manufacturer's suggested retail price, meaning that his dealer won't be adding ridiculous markups. Let's hope his isn't the only one.
