Tires are one of the most important elements of any car, and people have been trying to perfect the art of crafting these round and sticky objects for over a century. One of the most well-known and respected in the business, Goodyear, has been at the forefront of tire technology, and its latest ground-breaking tech is making big waves on the internet. Goodyear has been developing its airless tire technology for what feels like ages, and now we finally get to see them in action on a Tesla Model 3. In the following video, we get to see the Tesla EV carve corners and dodge cones with impressive poise.

The idea of airless tires has been around for as long as people have been putting air into tires, and most major brands, including Michelin and Bridgestone have all tried their hands at creating an airless tire with mixed results. GM and Michelin have teamed up to develop airless tires that should be ready to go on production vehicles by 2024. The race is heating up with the Goodyear's attempt, and we must admit, so far it looks seriously impressive. In the video, the Tesla Model 3 is seen carving through some cone slaloms and taking corners at speed, with the tires providing decent grip.

The main benefit of airless tires won't necessarily be for performance reasons, but more along the lines of increased sustainability, and lower maintenance costs. It turns out that the particulate emissions from EV tires are 1,850 times greater than the equivalent exhaust emissions. This is mainly due to the heavier average weight of EV vehicles. Airless tires don't get punctured, and aren't as easily damaged, which helps reduce the car's overall carbon footprint. In a world on the brink of autonomous vehicles, this will drastically reduce maintenance and emergency repair costs. Did we mention that they look pretty awesome? Goodyear plans to have these airless tires roadworthy by 2030.
