Out of the museum but still roped off.
There is no real consensus on what was the first supercar. Some would say that the Porsche-designed 1928 Mercedes-Benz SSK was the start of the niche, while others say it was as recent as the Lamborghini Miura. But a strong contender is the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing, a marvel of technology, elegance and conspicuous consumption if ever there was one. Plus, it held that all-important title for a supercar, fastest production car in the world.
Here is an example from 1956 parked on the street in Monte Carlo. Even here, the car is still roped off, such is the value of these cars today.
