It's hard to believe that the first installment of Gran Turismo launched on the original PlayStation 25 years ago. But five consoles and 14 titles later, Polyphony Digital is still going strong as one of the strongest racing game franchises in the industry, and now it wants to celebrate.

The franchise plans on going big with this milestone achievement by adding yet another comprehensive update to its current installation, Gran Turismo 7, as well as a big event hosted in Monaco for the GT World Finals.

The three new cars set to be added to the game in the coming days are the 1987 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth, 1996 S14 Nissan Silvia K's Aero, and BMW M2 Competition. Unfortunately, this won't be the all-new model, but rather the previous 2018 F87 generation. Road Atlanta will also be added as a playable track and as a location for the Curation mode which allows players to create realistic photos. An Illuminations location, detailing Kanagawa, Japan, will also be included.

The Nissan Silvia would simply be a repurposed model for the brand because it has been found in every previous title dating back to the very first game except Gran Turismo Sport. The Sierra and M2 will be all-new inclusions to the title, even though they are a bit dated and have been present in opposing titles for a good few years.

2022 has been a big year for the Gran Turismo franchise as it saw the mainline series finally return to consoles for die-hard and new fans to enjoy. It also marks the start of filming for its upcoming movie related to the GT Academy, which is scheduled to release sometime next year.

Speaking of the GT Academy, Polyphony Digital will be using this occasion to celebrate the GT World Finals, as mentioned above. 56 racers from 19 countries will head to Monaco over the course of this week to show off their driving skills in three different championships. The first competition will be the Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup which will be followed by the Nations Cup Regional and Grand Finals. The last event will be the Manufacturers Cup.

Celebrations will be brought to the game's home screen during its 25th anniversary week, with in-game prizes that can be won via various campaigns and challenges, including races and online quizzes. A special Red Bull X2019 with a 25th Anniversary livery will also be available just by participating in one of the events. In the coming days, we'll be getting our first official look at Ferrari's inaugural Vision GT Concept car destined to be added to the game.
