The flagship Mustang is a brute of a car with 662 horsepower and 631 pound-feet of torque. It's also unbelievably fast that loves nothing more than stretching its legs in a straight line. So when British supercar magazine Evo got hold of the only model in Europe, there was only one place to take it: the drag strip. Europeans that want the new Shelby GT500 Mustang will have to import it from the US. With a base price of $54,995, there will certainly be some takers even with the hassle and cost of shipping it eastwards.

That's because for the same money you get a C63 AMG around 200 hp worse off than the 200-mph American muscle car. The 1km drag race does seem like a non-event given the awesome power of the Shelby, even with the C63's rapid seven-speed automatic box. But it's always nice to see a US born-and-bred muscle car wiping the floor with a German pretender.
