If you're a big fan of Porsche restomods, there are two brands that are arguably head-and-shoulders above all others. If you love a modernized 964, you go to Singer Vehicle Design. But if you prefer your Porsche to come from a slightly more technologically advanced era and to be dripping in carbon fiber, you go to Gunther Werks. The company specializes in the 993 generation of the Porsche 911 and recently teased us with digital renderings of its latest project, an in-house designed 993 Speedster. The first such beauty has now been completed and unveiled by the company, and it looks brilliant.

Finished in Peninsula Cypan paint over Mandarin Orange leather, the first completed Speedster is not in the kind of spec that everyone will like, but ignore that for a second. Gunther Werks has built this properly with chassis stiffening using up the space where there used to be rear seats. Thus, the carbon fiber Speedster top and tonneau cover are not just aesthetic enhancements but integrate a new roll cage and roll hoop system. The result is 8,200 pounds of torsional stiffness, so this thing should handle like it's on rails.

The drama of the car is further increased with a windscreen featuring a lower rake and a carbon fiber frame and cowl. The new front fascia gets a carbon front spoiler too, while the billet aluminum mirrors (specific to this car only) and the aluminum door handles give a nice contrast. Other details include the GW logo laser-etched into the headlight projectors, carbon fiber seats, and a "more ergonomic" pedal box.

As for speed and power, GW says that the Speedster features "several performance upgrades which include remapped engine tuning to give a modest horsepower and torque increase over the current 435 horsepower and 335 lb-ft of torque in the 4.0-liter flat-six engine that's rebuilt by Rothsport Racing". Eisenlohr Racing center lock hubs are connected to an adaptive suspension system from JRZ with three drive modes, and various GW wheels are available, including revised Fuchs-style magnesium wheels with Porsche center locking mechanisms and carbon fiber barrels. Just 25 993 Speedsters will be made, with production set to commence early next year once the 25 GW coupes have been completed
