This coming year will mark three decades since the M5 was originally launched.
30 years. It sounds hard to believe, but it’s been that long ever since BMW launched its first M5 high-performance sedan. It all started with the E25 M5, built from 1985 until 1988, and from the get-go, that car changed the perception that large sedans couldn’t compete directly with true sports cars. The M5 also handled beautifully, and each subsequent generation showed regular improvements and refinement despite the car’s growing size.
Even today, there are very few full-size sport sedans that still offer a six-speed manual. That’s something special right there. So Happy Birthday, M5. Keep on rockin' in the free world!
