And if we had a spare $500k, that’s exactly what we’d do.
For those whose supercars are becoming somewhat of a bore, there are machines like the McLaren MP4 GT3 racing car. This is a $500,000 customer-spec GT3 gentleman racer, and the star of this week’s Drive installment of Chris Harris on Cars. It may look just like a normal 12C with a massive rear wing and aerodynamic add-ons from the outside, but scratch the surface and you’ll find a seriously cool cabin complete with F1-developed McLaren GT steering wheel and futuristic digital dash.
It also comes with a race-prepped 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 capable of over 500 hp mated to a six-speed sequential motorsport box. That’s 120 hp less than the street car, but as you’ll see from the footage of Harris at Snetterton, this has no resemblance to the street car. Which is exactly what buyers want.
