Has There Ever Been A Time When The Dodge Viper Wasn't Cool?

Video / 88 Comments

Um, no.

Back in 1991, Dodge pretty much shocked the entire automotive world by proving it still knew how to be cool, despite building all those minivans and K-cars. That's when the Viper RT/10 was launched, with none other than Carroll Shelby as its side. It looked wicked from the outside but its interior was Spartan. Along with an 8.0-liter V10 under that long hood, the entire package was an instant hit, elevating Dodge, as well as Chrysler, to another level. Some believe the Viper has always been in a supercar category all its own

It always has lacked the complete refinement of, say, Ferraris, but that's part of what makes it so special.Even back in 1993, when Motor Week did this review, the original Viper RT/10 was a true bad ass. After watching it, we kind of feel like playing The Need for Speed I, which came out in 1994.
