We owe a lot to this little car.
There was once a time when Japanese cars weren't particularly impressive. There was a lot of rebuilding to do after WWII, but quality would improve throughout the 1950s, and by 1962, Toyota unveiled its first sports car concept. The production version of the Sport 800 would debut in 1965, and although it got a very limited production run, the Sport 800 would pave the way for the 2000GT, and obviously a whole host of amazing cars after that.
The car got its name from its 800cc two-cylinder engine which produced 45 horsepower. Not very powerful, but neither were the European roadsters which were popular at the time.
